TUYA Wi-Fi Module Installation Guide

Wi-Fi Module lets you control your air conditioner via the Tuya Smart or Smart Life App. It supports bi-directional control for both remote operation using the app and physical control via IR remote. Status of the A/C unit is always synchronized, thanks to the direct connection to the A/C controller.

The module supports a wide range of air conditioner models and communicates with the A/C unit via 5V UART TTL, using a built-in logic level converter. It can be powered by either a 5V supply or a DC input ranging from 7 to 28V.

At its core is a ARM® Cortex®-M0+ processor and connectivity is provided by the Tuya WBR3 (Wi-Fi 2.4GHz + BLE) chip.

II. Hardware Installation

Important Installation Notice

Installing the Wi-Fi module requires access to the air conditioner’s main control board. Before beginning installation, ensure that the circuit breaker is turned off.

This procedure involves potential risks, including electric shock or injury from working at height. It is intended for individuals with experience in handling electrical equipment and air conditioner components. The manufacturer/seller assumes no responsibility for any damage, injury, or other consequences resulting from improper installation.

If you are not confident in performing the installation safely, it is strongly recommended to engage a qualified professional technician.

  1. Turn off the circuit breaker
  2. Remove the front cover of the air conditioner
  3. For models requiring a PC Board, install the PC Board onto the main board first (follow the manual in the box)
  4. Plug the connector into the port S21 or X50A + X35A ports
  5. You can place the module in the designated space insde the AC for the Wi-Fi Module or outside the AC for the best Wi-Fi signal
  6. Turn on the circuit breaker and check the module status light
  7. Connect to the app

  1. Turn off the circuit breaker
  2. Remove the front cover of the air conditioner
  3. Find the CN105 port (red slot) as shown in the picture. The position of CN105 may be in the control box (metal box) or on a small board at the front (depending on the model)
  4. Plug the connector into the port
  5. You can place the module anywhere, but it is recommended not to put it inside the control box as it may reduce Wi-Fi signal strength. Installing it outside will give the best signal.
  6. Turn on the circuit breaker and check the module status light
  7. Connect to the app

III. Adding to Smart Life App

The WiFiKit-II connects to the app via Wi-Fi. Therefore, the installation area must have Wi-Fi signal and internet access.

1. Install the Tuya Smart Life App

You can use either the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app on iOS and Android. You can download the Tuya Smart app from the Apple Store or Google Play Store, and the SmartLife app can be downloaded for iOS devices and Android devices.

2. Connect the Wi-Fi module to the App

  1. Connect to Wi-Fi and enable Bluetooth on your mobile phone.
  2. Make sure the module is in pairing mode (the blue LED is blinking). If not, press and hold the setup button for 6 seconds.
  3. Open the app and wait for the Wi-Fi Module to pop up (if it doesn’t, tap the + button in the top right corner).
  4. Tap to connect and enter your Wi-Fi password.
  5. Follow the instructions in the app.
